Princess Diana’s Most Photographed Gowns Bring Royal Prices at Julien’s Auction’s Summer Event

Beverly Hills, CaliforniaMay 7, 2011…  Julien’s Auctions, the world’s premier entertainment and celebrity memorabilia auction house, announced record sales for two of Princess Diana’s gowns.

Two Princess Diana Dresses sold for a record $276,000 at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills on Saturday, May 7, 2011.  It was the first of a two day pop culture auction conducted by the world class auction house.  Princess Diana wore both dresses at major events in her career.  The black crepe evening gown she wore during a state visit in 1992 (Sold for $144,000) and her light blue silk chiffon, strapless gown (Sold for $132,000) with accompanying stole worn by the Princess on three occasions: In 1987 at the Cannes film Festival, in September 1989 for a performance of Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal and for a 1987 portrait sitting with photographer Terrance Donovan.  Both dresses were designed by the late Catherine Walker.  “We had bidders from around the world bidding against each other in a frenzied effort to win the two dresses. The recent royal wedding has played a role in increasing the value of Princess Diana and all things royal” said Martin Nolan/Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions.  Day two of the pop culture auction continues on Sunday, May 8th with highlights from the life and career of Marilyn Monroe and other leading ladies of Hollywood.
